Jose Cuervo Tequila. José Cuervo's family recipes have been passed down from hand to hand for more than 10 generations. José Antonio de Cuervo began producing tequila with the permission of the Spanish crown as early as 1758, before Mexico's independence. Only blue agaves from five Mexican regions can be used to make tequila. Even today, it is still produced and distilled according to the old traditional method. The Especial Gold rests in selected oak barrels for four months. This resting (or reposado) refines and completes the character of the tequila and ensures its mild, superb taste.
